Abstract

This paper uses Jacques Derrida’s philosophy to study the relationship between religion and technology. To do so, the initial section outlines Derrida's critique of the metaphysics of presence, which seeks to confine human experience within the boundaries of rational inquiry. The second section shows how, for Derrida, many religious traditions are connected to this aim of the metaphysics of presence as they endeavor to compress diverse experiences into a singular religious truth. This is where the intricate between religion and technology becomes apparent, as religious traditions frequently utilize various technological tools to achieve this aim. This paper ends by asserting that Derrida's framework is relevant for contemporary technology discussions, often overlooking religion.
