Abstract
Within corporate governance, board diversity has become an important topic of discussion. Research has mainly been conducted on developed countries and existing literature does not provide a clear picture of the influence of gender diversity in the board of directors on financial firm performance. This raises questions about the influence of gender diversity in the board of directors on financial firm performance in emerging countries. That is why this research contributes to the literature by focusing on emerging countries. The data sample consists of 931 companies from Brazil, Russia, India and China from the year 2017. These data have shown that gender diversity in the board of directors in the short term has no influence on financial firm performance in emerging countries. In the long term gender diversity in the board of directors has a significant positive influence on financial firm performance in emerging countries.
