Abstract

Nature-based cooperative initiatives play a crucial role in contributing to the achievement of the Global Biodiversity Framework's goals. By applying SDG mapping methods to the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) his thesis aims to analyze how the 2030 targets of the GBF are represented among these initiatives. This method involves linking initiatives to one or more of the 2030 GBF targets through the use of specified keywords. Through this analysis, it becomes apparent that co-benefits through knowledge dissemination and knowledge production are important advantages of these initiatives, as well as accountability mechanisms and cooperative land management and conservation. However, gaps in contributions are also identified, in geographic location as well as in thematic implementation. There are geographic disparities in planned or ongoing implementation of initiatives on country-level as well as on continent-level, as well as large differences in implementation of the 2030 targets. Future research should explore these disparities, and investigate whether there are barriers which withhold initiatives from addressing certain GBF targets, as well as whether there are barriers to implementation in certain countries.
