dc.description.abstract | One of the effects of climate change is an increase in heavy and/or longer-lasting rainfall. This causes increased flood risk. River floods are among the most damaging natural disasters. Increasing flood risks call for more adaptive and sustainable flood risk management strategies. Complementing grey infrastructure with green/blue infrastructure is more adaptive and sustainable as it combines resistance with resilience and does not require the overuse of natural resources. However, the Netherlands' dominant approach to flood risk management still relies on implementing grey infrastructure. Therefore, this thesis's research question is: What factors hinder or support the implementation of green/blue infrastructure in flood risk management in the Netherlands? Actors involved in the flood risk management project The Green River Well were interviewed to collect the data using semi-structured interviews. The results show that most of the hindering factors of green/blue infrastructure are related to the institutionalisation of the hydro-engineering discourse. Because of this, available finances and supporting laws for green/blue infrastructure are limited. The project team itself can mainly enable the implementation of green/blue infrastructure. If the project team sees the importance of green/blue infrastructure, it is more likely to be implemented. | en_US |
