dc.description.abstract | In this project we describe FinCoach, a mobile financial coaching application that recommends concrete actions to users to improve their financial behavior. Actions suggested by the application are framed as challenges and are based on the Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change (TTM) and are matched to individual user’s stage of change. Furthermore, the described application utilizes social influence principles to nudge users into taking the suggested actions. To do so effectively, FinCoach uses a reinforcement learning algorithm that learns through interaction which influence principle is optimal for a given user. In this text, we describe core concepts that motivated the design of FinCoach, give an overview of our implementation of the application and discuss the results of small-scale field study that tested the effectiveness of the utilized reinforcement learning algorithm. | en_US |
