Languages for Specific Purposes (LSP) is an approach to language learning and teaching, which moves at the fastest rate and brings in the greatest consequences for teachers and learners (Strevens, 1977). Meanwhile, as the first step in designing an LSP course, needs analysis provides validity and relevancy for all subsequent course design activities. Herein, the MA thesis analyzes Mandarin learning needs for high-end hotels in Southeast Asia, and aims to address who will participate in the course and what should be included in the course. Multiple sources including team leaders of customer service officers in company NovoLanguage, hotel training managers, hotel staff, hotel guests, internal documents, literature, etc. are accessed through multiple methods such as unstructured interview, structured interview, questionnaire, etc. After triangulating all the findings, the target learners and proficiency as well as course contents are identified. This NA study forms the basis for the subsequent course design activities of the Hospitality Mandarin Course, and provides a method of analyzing language needs for the target hotels. Additionally, the findings in the thesis will provide further information about the clients as well, which is definitely helpful for the future cooperation between the hotels and language training company.
