Abstract

In recent years, with the frequent occurrence of flood disasters, especially some extreme floods, many losses have been caused. And due to the impact of climate change and population growth, the impact of floods will continue to increase in the future. In this context, the urban flood resilience has become the focus of many studies. Many scholars have evaluated and predicted the flood resilience of different cities through the calculation of the flood resilience index. However, some theoretically high flood resilience cities still suffer heavy losses after a flood. Therefore, it is questionable whether the theoretical urban resilience truly reflect the actual flood resilience. In order to delve deeper into this question, this thesis verifies the effectiveness of the flood resilience index through the actual flood disaster losses in cities in the Yangtze River Delta of China, and provides recommendations for flood risk management in this region.
