Abstract

This study analyzes the end-of-life planning for modern timber buildings in the Amsterdam metropolitan area. This research aims to provide information on end-of-life planning for buildings and bridge the gap between industry and research. Relevant parties that operate in timber construction were selected, and from documents and survey questions, three main themes were constructed: sustainability, building design, and moving forward with timber construction. The end-of-life planning was then evaluated based on its circularity. The results showed that many end-of-life planning practices were being implemented and that the practices were circular but fragmented. End-of-life planning could be improved, however, by a more process-oriented approach.
