Abstract
This research explores the impact of the women directors on 21st-century museums. It analyses a directorship of Marja Sakari at the Art Museum Ateneum in 2018-2023 through the notion of feminist curating. This study investigates the curatorial practices of Marja Sakari to evolve a more inclusive representation of artists, especially concentrating on the gender aspect. Feminist curating is an intersectional approach to curatorial practices, and it includes more than just exhibiting unrepresented artists. This study also looks at the impact Sakari’s curatorial choices have had on the visitors and media. Through its findings, the research takes part in the evolving nature of curatorial practices and the impact that women have on these institutions.
