Purpose: This thesis investigates the impact of open-plan office designs on neurodivergent employees, focusing on how these environments affect their experiences in the workplace. The research aims to provide insights into creating more inclusive work environments that accommodate the needs of neurodivergent individuals. Methods: A qualitative, inductive research approach was used to gather data through interviews and drawings of neurodivergent employees working in a university setting. This case study allowed for an in-depth exploration of the participants' experiences and perceptions. Results: The findings reveal that open-plan offices significantly hinder the concentration and productivity of neurodivergent employees due to frequent distractions. Personalized workspace adjustments, such as zoned desks and assigned seating, are critical in mitigating these issues and supporting routine and consistency. Conclusion: The study highlights the multifaceted experiences of neurodivergent employees in open-plan offices, with a shared experience being the many distractions they cause. Implementing basic practices, combined with personalized adjustments can enhance focus and productivity, creating an inclusive work environment that enables all employees to contribute effectively.
