Abstract

The story of Noah and the Flood is present in both the Bible and the Qur'an. From Noah came three sons who would become the forefathers of the peoples of the world as we know it today according to many medieval interpretations. By comparatively analyzing the narratives of Bede and al-Tabari surrounding the events of Noah, his sons, and the Flood, the similarities and differences in narrative tropes between these two authors are brought to light. Because they lived in different times, as well as in different contexts, it is hard to make a comparison between these two authors. Yet, it also reveals interesting details about concepts like othering and exclusion and especially how they might have been applied differently, yet share similarities between vastly different authors.
