Abstract

Although quite some research has been done into the works of the Italian philosopher Blasius of Parma (ca. 1350-1416), the two redactions of his Quaestiones Physicorum have been mostly ignored. This thesis compares one quaestio from both redactions. These quaestiones seem to react to the notorious French philosopher Nicholas of Autrecourt (ca. 1297-1367) and concern causality and knowledge. The main goal of this comparison is to find out to what extent the differences between the two redactions can be explained by the fact that in 1396, one year before the second redaction was written, Blasius was censured by the bishop of Pavia for having made “remarks against the catholic faith”.
