Abstract
The increasing adoption of digitalization, automation and robotization has reshaped various sectors around the world, including the production sector in the Netherlands. This study investigates the impact of these new technologies on the job satisfaction of Dutch production workers. It focusses on the ways through which job satisfaction influences different facets of job satisfaction. Using a qualitative approach, data was collected through semi-structured interviews. The data was then analysed using a thematic analysis, which resulted in a conceptual model. The findings revealed that multiple facets of job satisfaction were positively impacted. The production workers experience the change from physical to cognitive work as positive, and appreciate the extra learning opportunities which come with new technologies. Next to this, the improvement in the production process positively associates to the workers job satisfaction through various pathways. The research ends with suggestions for future research and implications for HR- and line managers.
