Abstract

This research is about sustainable urban developments and the consensus between policy ambitions and financial feasibility with value capture as possible solution in the Netherlands. The research question for this master thesis is: How is an urban sustainable development reached between discourse coalitions, analysed through the ADA framework, and how can value capture potentially improve this? It’s a qualitative research with three cases, all cases are sustainable urban developments in different municipalities in the Netherlands. All relevant actors in each urban redevelopment are included and interviewed through semi-structured interviews. The interviews are transcribed and further analysed based on Argumentative Discourse Analysis. Through this discursive approach each case and all its actors are analysed and the discourses, storylines and discourse coalitions are distinguished. These concepts clearly describe all actors and illustrate the different perspectives and goals per actor in each sustainable urban development to ultimately answer the research question.
