In this research Augmented Reality and real-time Object Detection are combined in an Android application for handheld devices to try and improve Second Language Acquisition. The possibility of doing this is examined through a theoretical and technical study and the usability is examined through an experiment. From this research it can be concluded that at the moment, creating such an app is possible but it still leaves something to be desired as real-time object detection is computationally expensive. Next to that, no signi cant result was found that using the application improved vocabulary learning compared to not using the ap- plication. Consequentially the application may not be of great use in a classroom situation, but more as a complement to the more traditional methods of second language learning.en_US
