dc.description.abstractThis study examines if the closeness of the event influences the use of frames and news values for Dutch crime news reports. A corpus of 90 crime news reports was analysed in order to identify differences and similarities between the use of news values and frames for the different types of news. Findings indicate that there is a significant difference between foreign news reports and domestic news reports in terms of news values. There was no significant difference between foreign news reports and domestic news reports in terms of frames. No relationship was found between news values and frames. Finally, no significant relation was found between the type of news in terms of news values and frames with the exception of the topic ‘child abuse’.
