This work is the outcome of a research on landscape, on ways of seeing and perceiving the space. My writings have been guided and stimulated by the will to explore the various kinds of ways in which Gianni Celati relates to and describes the landscape and the inhabitants of the Po Valley in the documentary Crumbling Houses and in the book Voices from the Plains in order to use it myself to offer a critical analysis of the environment of the Po valley and of his works. More specifically the research question that will guide the development of my work is: In which way materiality and affect play a central role in Celati’s ethical way of looking at and interacting with the space, time, the language and the multiple forms of otherness that he encounters in the Po valley?en_US
