dc.description.abstractUnsustainable material use in fashion has a significant negative environmental impact. Research has yet to explore how current efforts by the fashion industry to use more sustainable materials can be scaled up. Unsustainable material use happens mainly in the regime which is characterized by large fashion brands that operate in a similar way and share the same level of use of sustainable materials to date. One of these large fashion brands is Tommy Hilfiger which is used as a case study for this research. Exploring the barriers and opportunities for Tommy Hilfiger to scale up their sustainable material use is key in reducing the negative impact by fashion. The barriers and opportunities for Tommy Hilfiger to make this transition come from external and internal dynamics. The multi-level perspective theory is applied to analyze the influence of the societal and political context (the landscape) and innovation at fabric suppliers and small sustainable fashion brands (niches). By analyzing how Tommy Hilfiger can scale up their sustainable material use will provide valuable information for scaling up sustainable material use in the entire fashion industry.en_US
