The goal of this study is twofold. First, it draws on knowledge management and social network literature in order to explain through which mechanisms corporate board interlocks are related to innovation. This is done by systematically reviewing literature coming from these research areas and formulating three hypothesis. Second, it is to empirically determine the relation between corporate board interlocks and a board’s commitment to innovation by performing a lagged hierarchical multiple regression analysis using public company data. The empirical results indicate that it is in part possible to arrange innovation at the level of the board through intra-industry interlocks. No effect was found for interlocks with companies residing outside of the focal industry.en_US
