dc.description.abstractThis research was set out to contribute to understanding of informal urbanism by researching this from the theory of complex adaptive assemblage in the context where it unfolds; people’s lived everyday. The focus has been on the ways people build, maintain and manage their livelihoods in and/or by informal means. The theory, with its fundamental idea that ‘things together are more powerful than things apart’ because of involved interaction, allows for a multi-scalar analyses and enables a new way to look at the informal urban, questioning what it is that makes informal urbanism and how it relates to the wider city in its process of coming- into- being. The empirical insights, generated by means of embedded observations and interviews, narrate elements of daily life of the everyday setting of the case-study residential white building in central Phnom Penh and it’s resident. From the findings, this research facilitated unique insights into informal urbanism; why and how it is involved in people (in space) and (making) place in their reciprocal relation. These vivid accounts - that depict the city from the level of the everyday- in turn, are Illustrative for informal urbanism and the ‘part’ it takes in the various trajectories of city-making.en_US
