This is a research to creative entrepreneurship in the Newcastle-Gateshead waterfront area. The Newcastle-Gateshead waterfront area went through a period of major cultural investments. Flagship cultural centres such as the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Arts and the Sage Gateshead were completed in 2002 and 2004 respectively. In this research in-depth interviews were held with creative entrepreneurs to determine how this group perceives the area. The rate of entrepreneurship in the North East is the lowest in the country, while this group can make an important contribution to the regional economy. From this research it is concluded that it has positive effects for creative entrepreneurs to work in an area with creative exposure. However, mainly the social economic factors are valued. These can be to some extent facilitated, but are mostly bottom up processes that are ambiguous to influence through policy measures.en_US
