Abstract
There was no significant effect of gestures on the number of correctly memorized words. There is a significant effect of the type of words on the number of correctly memorized words. In the gesture condition, learners had more correct answers for concrete word than for abstract words. In the no-gesture conditions, the number of answers for concrete and abstract words did not differ from each other. In sum, gestures are not useful for learning a second language. However, if gestures are used, learners will learn concrete words better than abstract words.
