Abstract
During the last twenty years, there has been an been an increase in the number of conflict transformation projects implemented in conflict regions. Despite this increase, however, the extend of the impact of these projects remain ambiguous. Do these projects contribute to more peaceful and safe communities? How do these projects affect the stakeholders involved? This research investigates conflict transformation projects and what impacts they may have on the local population and long-term prospects for peace. By gaining knowledge and understanding of the projects’ effects, undesirable outcomes can be prevented in the future. This thesis examines whether conflict transformation projects can contribute to increased peaceful and secure societies. In order to achieve this goal, two projects in Kashmir were chosen and researched. The objective of this research was to first identify the Connectors and Dividers in Kashmir using the C&D framework for analysis, followed by determining whether specific conflict transformation projects can perform the role of peacebuilding in helping transform the conflict.
