Abstract
The master thesis focuses on researching the relationship between organizational structure and the possibility for knowledge sharing between professionals from the perspective of hospital organization. Firstly, the theoretically predicted impact of the ideal types of design: functional departments, flows structure, quasi-flow structure was determined. Secondly, the comparison of the proposed structure of chosen hospital with the ideal types of design was conducted. Finally, on the basis of the established theoretical relationship, the conclusions were drawn concerning the impact of the proposed organizational structure on the possibility for knowledge sharing between professionals. The study is aimed at answering the following research question: “To what extent does the proposed structure of Amalia Children Hospital enable or hinder knowledge sharing between professionals?”. The research adopts the qualitative research methodology and focuses on the case study analysis by conducting the ex-ante analysis of the proposed structure of chosen hospital organization. The study revealed that the quasi-flow structure results in high level of structural parameters of functional concentration and the separation between operational and regulatory tasks (De Sitter, 1997), what hinders the possibility for knowledge sharing between professionals. The resulting structural complexity, high number of transitions and fragmentation negatively influence the possibility for knowledge sharing.
