Abstract
This article researches the influence of the historical discourse in which a book is written on the content of this book and the ideas that it extends. Historical children’s books from three different time periods have been researched and then compared to answer this question. Four different aspects were explored in each of these periods: main characters, gender, oriëntalism and religion. The research shows that the discours definately has an influence on the content of historical children’s books. Throughout the different periods there was a distinct evolution discovered for all four aspects.
