Abstract
Kosovo is not yet a popular tourism destination and is at the beginning of developing its tourism sector after declaring its independence from Serbia ten years ago. A negative image of the country exists among Dutch people with the war history taking up a large part. Dark tourism has become a popular form of tourism and refers to tourists travelling to places associated with death and suffering, including war locations. This form of tourism can be used in Kosovo and this research will show if that is a good idea by designing a Kosovo war tour. Offering a war tour through the country can turn the negative war image into something positive and attract more (Dutch) tourists, which then results in economic benefits. In order for the tour operator to offer a war tour, there have to be enough attractive war locations that can be included and the local perspective has to be taken into account, because the Kosovo war has not been that long ago. Possible war sites for the tour that get discussed are Račak, the Kosovo museum, Meja, Gjakova, Gllogjan (Glodjane), Prekaz, the Krusha e Madhe & Krusha e Vogel villages, and the capital of Kosovo, Pristina.
