Abstract
In this thesis I describe how the Kurdish autonomous region in Syria, which is based on the ideology of democratic confederalism, functions in practise. Democratic confederalism has the potential to create a free, democratic society. This could bring revolutionary change in the Middle East. However, the current practice in Rojava seems different.
