Abstract
This thesis researches how creative practice can benefit university students of Art and Culture Studies. Through literature research, I provide an overview of the debates about the humanities, artistic research and the creative industries. Through the method of actor-network theory, I reveal the connections between human and non-human actants and the agency of materiality and objects during research processes. I interview two of the four initiators from Radboud University and three university students of Radboud University who were involved in the minor Create Space, a collaborative minor between ArtEZ and Radboud University. The interviews with the two initiators show the agency of political, institutional and educational actants in the development of the minor. The interviews with the students show that creative practice enhances students’ understanding of theory and its place in a social or cultural context, and makes students more empathic towards artists and non-academic members of society.
