Abstract
This thesis examines the fictionalisation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Oscar Wilde, Charles Dickens, and the Brontë sisters as detectives in six biofiction novels in the detective genre. The research question is: In what ways does the fictionalisation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Oscar Wilde, Charles Dickens, and the Brontë sisters as detectives in British and American biofiction of the twenty-first century affect the portrayal of their authorial and cultural identity and the incorporation of their works? To answer this question, I will make use of several theories on the subject of life-writing and biofiction, specifically focused on concepts such as 'fictionalisation' and 'biographemes'. The main goal is to examine how these historical authors are portrayed in biofiction when they assume a different role besides their authorship and how their works, personality, and cultural and authorial identity are interweaved with that and the story as a whole.
