Abstract

This thesis looks at the portrayal of British identity at post-war world expositions as described in British broadsheet newspapers. Using the descriptions of the British national pavilions given by the newspapers, the changes that the representation of British identity at the world expositions underwent were charted. The dual identity of Great Britain (Britishness and Englishness) was highlighted to show which identity is currently used by Great Britain to identify herself in front of an (inter)national public.
