In industrialized countries, job satisfaction is a key factor in maintaining a low employee fluctuation rate, providing a healthy work environment and increasing productivity. The expression of gratitude seems to have a big impact on job satisfaction. This study aims to investigate the impact of the expression of gratitude on job satisfaction and the most effective way of expressing it. A sample of 103 participants working in the Netherlands, executed a national flag- country matching task and received differently expressed gratitude messages. An examination of written and spoken gratitude disentangled the more effective way of expressing gratitude, showing that spoken gratitude is a more beneficial manner than written. This study represents a first step of using gratitude as a tool to increase job satisfaction.en_US
