Abstract

In this thesis, an analysis was conducted to try to see what the effect of current and future mobility hubs is on the rural/urban mobility divide in the province of Gelderland. The rural/urban mobility divide is in this case the average ownership of cars per household. Existing mobility hubs and plans for future mobility hubs were analyzed so that they could be categorized and placed in a database. Indicators were then used to see if they could partially explain car ownership in certain municipalities, and if this had changed between 2016 and 2022. During the research, it became clear that there are not a lot of plans for mobility hubs. Therefore, not much could be said about future mobility hubs. Furthermore, most currently existing mobility hubs consists out of train station that have either bus connections or that recently got shared bicycles for example. From the research, it did become clear that there are various types of hubs that are found more commonly in either rural or urban areas. It also became clear that urban hubs are found more often in urban areas. In the end, it became clear that more insight could likely be gained from running the same analysis in the future.
