Abstract

This study investigated whether an evidence-based creativity training, aimed at debunking common lay theories about creativity, enhanced employees’ knowledge of how to foster creativity in business contexts. Despite creativity’s increasingly important role in innovation and competitiveness, it is often misunderstood and underutilized due to widespread misconceptions. Using an experimental pre-post design with both a training and a control group, all participants completed a baseline test and a follow-up assessment. The study also examined the prevalence of common creativity lay theories across departments and explored the moderating role of creative self-efficacy. Results showed that the training significantly enhanced participants’ knowledge of how to foster creativity. However, participants did not successfully reject common lay theories, and no departmental differences were found in these beliefs. Additionally, creative self-efficacy did not moderate the training effect. These findings suggest that evidence-based creativity training can be an effective tool to enhance employees’ understanding of how to foster creativity in the workplace
