Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study is to discover if trust has a moderating role on the relationship between digitalization and the governance of corruption. By taking a closer look at these three variables and their association, this study seeks to find more clarity about the ambiguous effects of digitalizing on the governance of corruption. With the ultimate goal of finding more sustainable ways to fight corruption in an international business context. The aspect of trust, which is closely association with digitalization and corruption, makes for a more comprehensive perspective of the difficult phenomena. The focus of this study is on organizations that are a part of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). Method: This study used a combination of qualitative research methods (content coding) and quantitative research methods (regression analyses) to test the hypotheses. The data was collected from 150 reports from participants of the UNGC. Results: The results of the multiple regression analyses performed in this study are insignificant. Limitations: Cross-sectional study, the type of data that was used (self-reported documents), research scope, and the measurement scale of digitalization. Future research should consider these limitations. Implications: Does stimulating organizations to become more digital, helps in the fight against corruption? This requires more in-depth research.
