Abstract

It is noted that with the strong attraction of electronic products to the younger generation has reduced their interest and knowledge in the field of cultural heritage. In order to attract more visitors, museums around the world have begun their pursuit of digital transformation. This thesis uses the Remastered Museum in Rotterdam, the Netherlands as a case study and focuses on one of the emerging applications of digital technologies, projection mapping. The research seeks to answer the following research questions: in what ways do visitors experience projection mapping within the Dutch museum sector? This thesis combines participant observation and ethnography, concludes that by using projection mapping technology, visitors are encouraged to interact with the exhibition by using bodies and phones, and to perform behaviours that match the projected content to immerse themselves in the projected environment.
