Abstract
The topic of this thesis is character adaptation in the television series The Artful Dodger (2023). The cultural background of Oliver Twist and Charles Dickens will be discussed, along with previous research on Victorian literature adaptation in general. The main focus will be on the main characters adapted to the screen, namely Fagin and Jack Dawkins, also known as Artful Dodger. These characters will be analysed using the abovementioned theoretical framework. This will lead to comparison between the portrayal of the main characters in the adaptation and the source text.
