Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic had a significant influence on the lives of citizens in the Netherlands. It did not only impact the health and freedom of people during the time of the pandemic, it did also impact their way of thinking, which led to an increase of radicalized individuals. The approach chosen by the government to stop the spread of the virus resulted in protests across the country, often accompanied by violence or threatening situations. This paper examines how the Covid-19 pandemic has contributed to the increasing radicalization of individuals in the Netherlands, and how the growing division within society, the multitude of important political events that happened at the same time, and the growing role of the government in the lives of people has played a role in this.
