Abstract

This exploratory study investigates the role of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) related to organizational goals in individual employees’ judgment of organizational legitimacy. The study has shown that SDG-related organizational goals positively influence individual employees’ judgment of organizational legitimacy. Additionally, this study highlights the importance of organizational signals to strengthen the relationship between SDG-related goals and individual employees’ judgment of organizational legitimacy. The organizational signals that can help organizations to manage their legitimacy in the context of SDGs include visibility of the goals, transparency regarding goal process and outcomes, goal awareness, attention to the goals, internal communication, employee inclusion, and comprehensibility of the goals. These findings carry implications for academics, managers, policymakers, and practitioners. This exploratory study contributes to research on the judgment formation of organizational legitimacy in the context of SDGs.
