Abstract

For a sample of N = 240, the smoking behavior, their belief in the myth that e-cigarettes do not contain nicotine, and the level of agreeableness was measured by means of an online questionnaire. The groups of smokers and non-smokers either saw an intervention text that was tailored to low- or to high agreeableness. The results show that generally, the belief lowered after exposure to an intervention. However, agreeableness does not correlate with smoking status and that there is no interaction effect between smoking status and message type on the belief in the misinformation. The belief was lower for those, smokers and non-smokers alike, who saw the message tailored to high agreeableness.
