Abstract
This thesis examines gender roles and how they are portrayed in The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. First several gender theories regarding gender roles, identity, and gender performance are considered in relation to The Hunger Games novels. In the second chapter the following research question is answered: “How does the Capitol use television and its enforcement of class differences influence gender roles in The Hunger Games trilogy?”. This thesis considers that the audience and a set of historical possibilities is of influence to the performance of gender roles and the identity of the performer. However, the performer can influence the audience as well.
