Abstract

This thesis explores the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by critically analysing the General Assembly's dis-course on conflict resolution and security. The research question guiding this paper is the following; How are racial-sexual hierarchies reflected in the General Assembly's discourse on conflict resolution and security? A discourse analysis methodology examined speeches, press release and resolutions from the United Nations General Assembly to uncover patterns and implications related to racial-sexual hierarchies. The findings reveal the dominance of Western perceptions within the discourse, characterised by a neolib-eral feminist approach that perpetuates simplified and essentialist understandings of gender relations. The analysis also highlights the differential representation of Israel and Palestine, with implications for power imbalances, racial hierarchies and international perceptions of the conflict. These findings emphasise the need to challenge dominant discourses, promote inclusivity, and engage with diverse perspectives in conflict resolution efforts. This research contributes to the understanding of how racial-sexual hierarchies influence international conflict resolution processes and underscores the importance of contextually relevant and inclusive approaches in achieving sustainable peace
