Abstract

The following research question was intended to answer in this thesis: ‘If at all, how does the timing of the adoption of new technologies affect operational and economic performance?’. The objective of this thesis was to investigate the influence of early adoption of new technologies on a firm's economic and operational performance. This research tried to explain a partial mediation effect from operational performance on the relation between early adoption of new technologies and economic performance. The data analysis found no evidence to support any of the hypotheses. Providing an answer to the research question, early adoption of new technologies appears to be unrelated to economic and operational performance in manufacturing firms, and operational performance does not seem to play a mediator role.
