Abstract
This study explores news and information consumption patterns and social capital evolution among Ukrainian women living in the Netherlands. Through a mixed method utilizing qualitative interviews and questionnaires, the research reveals that news has become a central aspect of participants’ daily lives, primarily accessed via Ukrainian online media and social media platforms like Telegram. The ease of access to news due to connectivity also leads to news fatigue and social media overload. While participants generally trust official news sources, they rely on their social capital for personal and real-time news on the war.
Findings also show that social capital has evolved since the beggining of the war, expanding within both the Ukrainian diaspora and Dutch local communities. Refugees and expatriates reported increased solidarity within the Ukrainian community in the Netherlands, with a mixed experience of integrating with local Dutch acquaintances. ating with local Dutch acquaintances.
