Abstract
Speech and gestures are closely related. Research over the past decades has shown an intimate
relationship between speech and gestures, with communicative intent often the origin of both
of these phenomena. These studies have led to the widely accepted belief that gestures are
used, among other things, to convey information that speech cannot properly or easily convey. During these studies the stimuli used were often in the form of audio-visual narratives. However, little is known about the effect of information modality on gesture production.
