Abstract

As companies continue to outsource production, raw materials, and labor costs to developing countries to secure the best prices and quality for their products, cultural differences are becoming a more prominent issue in business transactions. Some of these issues include communication misunderstandings and conflicts in business objectives, which may lead to frustration. To address these issues, companies should consider offering cross-cultural training (CCT) that assesses participants’ cultural competence and their retention of information in the short and medium term. Previous research has shown that short CCT programs have a greater impact on participants with high Cultural Intelligence. However, no study has investigated whether that is also the case when the CCT is short, while short trainings represent money savings for companies. The present study analyzed the effectiveness of short cross-cultural training on individuals with high and low cultural intelligence, and whether these effects last in the short and medium term.
