Abstract
With the introduction of new technologies in society and in organizations come new possibilities but its impact is often uncertain or hard to predict. To remedy this issue this thesis aims to present plausible scenarios with Artificial Intelligence as a leader and to speculate what leadership behavior AI and humans perform in these scenarios. This is done by analyzing three science fiction novels by means of a multiple case study with thematic analysis. After this analysis two scenarios could be identified. One where AI has an advisory role to a human leader. In this scenario the leadership behavior performed by AI can be categorized as Monitoring and Evaluation of Strategies. In scenario two AI is an independent leader that is capable of decision making and strategy creation. The leadership behaviors performed by AI in this scenario include Monitoring and Evaluation of Strategies but AI also Assesses Performance and does Tactical Planning and Resource Allocation. These leadership behaviors are task-oriented which implies human managers of the future could focus more on relation-oriented leadership behavior. Due to the speculative nature of this research and the use of fictional stories the construct and ecological validity is low.
