Abstract

This thesis is part of my Master's program in Spatial Planning at Radboud University Nijmegen. This research marks the main project of this Master's program and therefore also the completion of my Master's in Spatial Planning, specializing in Planning, Land and Real Estate Development. Specifically for this Master's program, I transferred from the University of Amsterdam to Radboud University Nijmegen a year ago, aiming to better focus on area development and land dynamics. A choice that has paid off, as I look back on this Master's program with great pleasure. While I conducted research on the phenomenon of counter-urbanization during my Bachelor's thesis, I also wanted to try something new that would incorporate all the lessons learned over the past few years: policy interpretation, quantitative analyses, ArcGIS Pro, and an interview with an expert in the field. After a period of careful consideration and brainstorming with my supervisor, I arrived at a topic I fully support and have become increasingly knowledgeable about throughout the process. Ultimately, I am pleased with the final result of this dissertation, a comprehensive study that has attempted to be as valuable as possible, without overstating it or making claims that are difficult to validate. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this research or helped in any way in its completion. Thanks go to my supervisor, Klaas Kresse, with whom I was able to brainstorm topics, test ideas, and was guided in the right direction several times. I also thank friends, fellow students, and family with whom I was able to discuss certain challenges related to the writing process, as well as the expert who was open to helping me strengthen my conclusions.
