Abstract

This study examined the extent to which the Big Five personality traits Extraversion, Neuroticism, Openness, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness are related to Idea selection accuracy, in co-creating sustainable innovations. Previous studies have demonstrated that linkages exist between the Big Five personality traits and willingness to co-create and creativity. This study aimed to contribute to the scarce knowledge available in the creativity process and specifically on idea selection accuracy, by investigating the direct relation of personality traits to Idea selection accuracy. The study hypothesized that all 5 personality traits are related to the Idea selection accuracy. The hypotheses were tested by conducting a survey and using the responses to run a Multiple Regression Analysis. Only Openness was observed to be a weak, positive, significant predictor for Idea selection accuracy, whereas the other traits showed no significant relations. However, an insignificant regression equation was observed and no linearity was found, thereby substantially limiting the accuracy of the predictions of this study. The results should be interpreted with caution, and future research should dive further into these relations taking the limitations of this study into account.
