Abstract

Our aim is to test if suppressing the Alpha wave will result in changes to the underlying brain activity. In this project we tested whether a steady state visually evoked potential (SSVEP) is qualified to suppress the Alpha wave. We tried inducing an SSVEP reaction with a phase inverse to the phase of the Alpha wave and observing if the two patterns cancel each other out. We found that we can suppress modeled data and real data. When we conducted the experiment on a subject we had trouble inducing an SSVEP response. After thorough analysis we did not find a satisfying cause for the lack of SSVEP response. We believe however that, based on the results of offl ine Alpha wave suppression, with a reliable and stable SSVEP response it is possible to influence the Alpha wave.
