Abstract

Organizational and innovation improvements are essential for intermediary firms to remain viable in an evolving insurance market. To effectively leverage newly available resources Quintes is exploring how to enhance its innovation efforts. From a structural perspective, this study seeks to diagnose the current organization structure and innovation structure at Quintes and explores how it aligns with principles from Modern SocioTechnical Theory throughout applied diagnostic research. Within this research the current organization structure and innovation structure (Ist) are analysed and compared with the literature (Soll), through a method commonly known as Gap analysis. The assessment of the organizational structure and innovation structure was based on the parameters of De Sitter’s (1998) and Lekkerkerk’s (2012) Model Innovation and Organization Structure (MIOS), a systemic normative model which identifies the necessary and sufficient functions required for the viability of an organization. Empirical insights into Quintes' current situation were gained through document analysis and semi-structured interviews, resulting in systematic descriptions of organizational structures based on the functions of the MIOS and De Sitter’s parameters. The results of the analysis showed which parameters of De Sitter and functions of the MIOS did not align with the principles form from Modern SocioTechnical Theory and presented the Gap. To close this gap recommendations were made to enhance Quintes its organizational structure and innovation structure in order to ultimately leverage newly available resources.
